Guidelines for a harmonious studio
The Movement Refinery has always been and will continue to be an enjoyable and safe venue for the community. We have some guidelines that will enable us to co-exist kindly and support each other for years to come.
Training – health and safety
Your safety and wellbeing is our priority, staff have the right to determine which level of training is suitable for you. It is within our scope of practice to do so and as such, we recommend that all new clients to the studio participate in at least one private session to determine this. Our staff and contractors are not medically trained. They are not qualified to assess if you are in good physical condition and can exercise without risking your health, safety or comfort. If you have any doubts, we urge you to seek expert advice before starting an exercise program.
Additionally, if you are under the care or supervision of an allied health, or primary care professional, you will need clearance to exercise in writing prior to commencing sessions at The Movement Refinery.
Exercise during pregnancy is recommended but also needs to be assessed on a case-by-case basis to ensure that the client is safe and comfortable. Please consider disclosing your pregnancy status to ensure your health and wellbeing needs are met.
There is an inherent risk of injury with any exercise. If you aren’t feeling your best, or have an injury (diagnosed or otherwise). Please inform the studio in writing of this and also communicate with your instructor each time. If you have an injury or don’t feel confident exercising, group sessions are not the right option for you and we urge you to take private sessions until you are confident and pain-free.
No zippers on the Pilates equipment – our equipment is hand made and your clothes can tear the upholstery. Clothing without zippers will be available for purchase. Please wear comfortable, clean and fitted clothing that allows your instructor to provide technical feedback.
Arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time of your class. You need to be on the mat or in the room ready to go at the start of the class. Latecomers (arriving after the advertised start time) are at risk of injury and disrupt the group, may not be admitted to group classes and will be charged a late cancellation fee. Simply put if you arrive late or leave early, you are not getting our best product and this will limit your progress.
Your instructor will lead the class and provide instruction to help you exercise safely and to get the most out of your body and time. If you struggle receiving feedback or don’t know how to process it, invest your time and energy in some private sessions to help bridge the gap. This will allow you to get more out of your teacher/student relationship and will provide the best experience at The Movement Refinery. All feedback to the student is constructive by way of offering safe and effective technical guidance and sharing years of industry expertise.
Phone on silent – not vibrate – no phone calls to be taken on premises.
The studio has a shower, if you need to take one before class please arrive with enough time to do so. The studio is a shared space and as such, smelly bodies will be greeted with deodorant and a towel.
The Movement Refinery aims to provide a respectful and peaceful environment for all of our clients. We expect our clients to act with kindness and respect for others (staff and clients) at all times. Disrespectful, anti-social or aggressive behaviour will not be tolerated and the offending client may be banned from participating in classes.
We make every possible effort to deliver our services in accordance with our Class Schedule. Class Schedules are subject to change; we provide you with notice for permanent schedule changes, but may not able to provide advance notice in cases of last-minute staff or schedule changes. We are not liable in any way to provide you with a refund, credit, transfer, or to offer compensation of any kind, for Classes that are not held in accordance with the Class Schedule, including without limitation any Classes that are changed or cancelled.
Please keep up the studio up to date with correct contact details including phone number and email address.
The studio, like all others in the industry seeks to offer a service offering available to all clients at all times. Please respect the shared nature of this enterprise and ensure your administration is up to date which provide access to the wider community. Repeat offenders will be encouraged to find a more suitable studio. The Movement Refinery is not interested in collecting late cancellation fees from repeat offenders, we are looking to create a clientele that is as passionate about improving their health and wellbeing as we are.
